SP supports K to 12

Bontoc, Mountain Province – Giving primacy on education, the Sangguniang Panlalawigan here passed a resolution strongly supporting the implementation of the K to 12 Basic Education Program of the Department of Education (DepEd).

The K to 12 program covers kindergarten and 12 years of basic education; six years of primary education [grade 1-6], four years of Junior High School [grade 7-10], and two years of Senior High School [grade 11-12] which will be fully implemented by next school year 2016-2017. It aims to provide sufficient time for mastery of concepts and skills, develop lifelong learners, and prepare graduates for tertiary education, middle –level skills and development, employment and entrepreneurship.

Believing that the program provides Filipino children with an education that will equip them with skills and competence of an international standard to compete globally, the SP were motivated to pass Resolution No .2015 – 227.

The legislative body agreed to forward the resolution to President Benigno Aquino III for his information. Also to the Senate President Franklin Drilon, Speaker of the House of Representative Feliciano Belmonte Jr., and the Secretary of the Department of Education Armin Luistro.

The Provincial School Board chaired by Governor Leonard G. Mayaen posed no objection to the resolution as presented by SP member Francis O. Tauli, chair of the Committee on Education, Culture and Tourism during the board’s meeting.

Prior to this, Gov. Mayaen assured the support of the provincial government not only to basic education but also to tertiary education.

He said that the provincial government allotted P3.9 Million for the Special Education Fund (SEF) this year to help promote quality education in the province.

The biggest chunk of the budget under SEF was allotted to expenses of school related activities like conferences, meeting, information education campaign, trainings, seminars and reproductive of instructional materials amounting all to P1, 750,000.

The amount of P860, 000.00 was allotted for the honoraria, wages and personnel benefits of contracted personnel such as day care workers, volunteer teachers, watchmen, clerk, and administrative aides who were assigned in various government schools.

Also, P24,000 was appropriated as aid to delegations to the Provincial Athletic Meet, P609,400.00 contingency fund which will be used as assistance to education facility, day care matters, and other legal expenditures, P170,000 for TEV in the monitoring of provincial paid contracted personnel, P150,000 for Treasury tax projects and programs, P50,000 for handog resibo program, P100,000 each for the Mt. Province Federation of Parent-Teachers Association (MPFPTA) and the Mt. Province School Teachers and Employees Association (MPSTEA) in support to their programs/activities, P50,000 each for supplies and for the maintenance of the swimming pool, P30,000 for research and development, P20,000 for the electricity bill of the library hub; and P7,200 for cell cards of the secretariat.

Aside from this, the provincial government is continuously supporting other activities of the DepEd such as aid to the Mountain Province delegates in the Cordillera Administrative Region Athletic Association and Palarong Pambansa, Provincial Jamboree, and Division and Regional Press conferences.
