BONTOC – More constituents in Mountain Province and nearby provinces can now be catered by the Bontoc General Hospital (BoGH) following the turn-over and inauguration of the new three-storey OPD-Ward Complex last July 9, 2014.

The three-storey building amounting to P29.8 Million was funded by the Department of Health- Cordillera Administrative Region (DOH-CAR) in its effort to provide and improve quality health services through its Health Facility Enhancement Program (HFEP).

In his message, Governor Leonard Mayaen thanked the DOH-CAR for their continuous support and assistance in providing basic health services and improvement of facilities in the province. “With the limited resources of the provincial government, we need the intervention and assistance of the DOH-CAR to upgrade health facilities that can cater to all of our constituents,” the governor stressed.

Mayaen also thanked the Sangguniang Panlalawigan headed by Vice Governor Bonifacio Lacwasan for their support to all the programs of the present administration.

Furthermore he commended the Provincial Health Office, BoGH headed by Dr. Nenita Lizardo and the Provincial Engineer’s Office for their patience and persistence for the accomplishment of the said building.

Dr. Valeriano Jesus Lopez, OIC to the Office of the Regional Director of DOH-CAR in his message specified that the DOH aims to bring and ensure the availability of quality and affordable health care services, especially to indigents who cannot afford high cost of health services.

Dr. Lopez further stressed that the country is facing a daunting challenge on how to attain the Millennium Development Goals (MDG), specifically MDG 4 and 5 which is the reduction of infant mortality and improved maternal health. However, the official is confident that the  Cordillera region, especially Mountain Province, will achieve its target because of its intensified effort in providing quality and affordable health services to the public and that this is attainable because of its partnership with the Local Government Units (LGUs).

Moreover, Dr. Lopez challenged the provincial government to sustain the operation of the BoGH and to improve its services and use the income of the hospital to augment its limited budget.  This is meant to ensure availability of much needed supplies and medicines, as well as funds for infrastructure needed to respond to increasing demand for services.

Subsequently, Dr. Nenita Lizardo, the Provincial Health Officer of BoGH expressed her gratitude for all the assistance of the DOH and support of the provincial government to the hospital.  She further stated that more patients will surely benefit from it.

In thanksgiving, Fr. Marcs Castaňeda blessed the entrance and all the rooms of the OPD- Ward complex – praying that all those who are confined and who are seeking medical attention at the hospital will be healed. Alpine L. Killa and Dennis Brayl  Likigan
