by Imelda U. Sawi

Bontoc, Mountain Province – Governor Leonard G. Mayaen encouraged the business people in the province to prepare as Mountain Province will be hosting the 11th Igorot International Consultation (IIC) next year which will coincide with the Lang-ay Festival celebration.

This was announced by the governor during the opening of the 27th Mountain Province Craft Exposition spearheaded by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) – Mountain Province last December 11, 2015.

The event is said to boost the province’ economy as Igorots from the different corners of the globe and the nation are coming home to participate in the activity. The IIC is biennial gathering of the Igorot Global Organization (IGO) held alternately overseas and the Philippines; to celebrate their unique culture and heritage, and to consult on issues and concerns that affects them.

The governor also urged the Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) to further improve their products and assured them that the provincial government through its Provincial MSMED Council will support our local entrepreneurs. He said that for 2016, a certain budget was purposely appropriated to assist SME’s in the form of a loan with minimal interest.

It will be recalled that Mayaen accepted the responsibility for Mountain Province to host the IIC in order to convince Igorots now living in the different parts of the globe to come home and feast with the people to help boost the growth of the local tourism industry.// Erwin S. Batnag
