Crime Solution in Mountain Province Seen to Speed-up

BONTOC – Solving crimes in Mountain Province will surely speed-up following the purchase of basic forensic tools turned-over to the Mountain Province Provincial Crime Laboratory Office by the Provincial Government of Mountain Province.

 

The forensic basic tools and equipment amounting to P100, 000 was sourced out from the fund of the Provincial Peace and Order Council (PPOC) seeing that there is a need to improve the Crime Laboratory of Mountain Province.

 

Earlier, the Provincial Management Coordinating Committee (PMCC) forwarded a resolution to the PPOC appealing for the purchase of forensic basic tools and equipment to be used by the Mountain Province Provincial Crime Laboratory Office.

 

The PMCC relayed that in the past three years, not all crimes in Mountain Province were solve. Thus, providing and upgrading the equipment of the Mountain Province Crime Laboratory Office will improve the scientific investigation services and other technical support of the said office.

 

According to the council, the crime solution efficiency rate for the past three years is considered low. In 2011, 107 crimes were solved out of the 602 total number of crimes with a crime solution efficiency rate of 39. 04%. For 2012, the crime solution efficiency rate decreased to 18. 97% with 203 number of crimes solved out of 351. For 2013, 626 number of crimes were solved out of the total 878 leading to 44. 85% increase in crime solution efficiency rate.

 

In its resolution, the PMCC further stressed that the purchase of basic forensic tools and equipment will surely lead to immediate response and speedy administration of justice for victims and families affected.

 

Meanwhile, Governor Leonard G. Mayaen who is also the chairman of PPOC also shared that in the past years, the PNP- Mountain Province has to bring the collected evidence at the regional crime laboratory in Camp Dangwa, Benguet.

With this, Mayaen believes that the purchase of basic forensic tools and equipment of the Mountain Province Crime Laboratory will contribute to the attainment of peace and order in the province as crime solution will speed –up and justice will be given to the victims and the families affected.

 

The PMCC comprises the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), Mountain Province Provincial Police Office (MPPPO), Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) – Provincial Office, Mountain Province Provincial Crime Laboratory, National Police Commission (NAPOLCOM) and High Way Patrol Group.
