Bontoc, Mountain Province- The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) advised the public to be alert and prepared to act immediately for any untoward incident as Typhoon Lawin (international name “Haima”) has already entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).
In preparation for the typhoon, the PDRRMC chaired by Governor Bonifacio C. Lacwasan, Jr., convened for a Pre Disaster Risk Assessment at the PDRRM Operation Center on October 18, 2016.
Contingency measures were discussed during the meeting for possible effects of the landfall of Typhoon Lawin this Wednesday or Thursday and its effect on the province. Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer Atty. Edward F. Chumawar, Jr. sought the cooperation and full participation of concerned agencies, departments and groups to prepare for or the typhoon and to manage its effect. “Let us all take a proactive stance,” he added.
Everyone is encouraged to take pre-emptive measures and to secure their family’s safety. Fishing during the typhoon is discouraged to avoid drowning incidents.
Typhoon Lawin has grown to a super typhoon category and provinces of the Cordillera Administrative Region are in the list of potential risk areas. Residents of the CAR are advised to be prepared for the onslaught of the Typhoon.
Through Executive Order No. 28, s.2016, Gov. Lacwasan suspended classes in all levels in both public and private schools and work in government offices. The suspension is effective October 20-21, 2016. Work in government offices are also suspended, except for agencies and offices involved in Disaster Risk Reduction and Management.
