Provincial Government increases subsidy to Boy Scouts

Bontoc, Mountain Province – The subsidy of the Provincial Government of Mountain Province to the Boy Scout of the Philippines (BSP) – Mountain Province Chapter was increased this year. Governor Leonard G. Mayaen who is also the chair of the BSP- Mountain Province Council announced this during a joint meeting of the council and District Coordinators of the Department of Education (DepEd) on July 9, 2015. The subsidy was increased to P500, 000 from P200, 000 last year.

The governor remarked that this was the result of the harmonious working relationship between the Chief Executive and the Legislative body headed by Vice Governor Bonifacio C. Lacwasan.

Mayaen relayed that he included in the Executive Budget for 2015 the subsidy for the BSP-Mountain Province Chapter which which was consequently approved by the members of the Sangguniang Panlalaw­igan thru Appropriation Ordinance No. 2014 -24.

The governor said that the provin­cial government has always been supportive of the programs and activities of the scouts in the province, he being a scout himself. “Once a scouter, the heart and soul is always there,” he added.

Mayaen also thanked those in at­tendance during the meeting for their effort and sincerity in assuring that all scouting activities and programs in the province are achieved. Apart from this, he encouraged them to work together in achieving the scouts’ vision and mission.

Meanwhile, BSP-Mountain Prov­ince Council Scout Executive Rosendo B. Cacap reported that there were 3,996 total registered scouters last year. Of the total, 191 are from Barlig, 701 in Bauko 1, 417 in Bauko 2, 315 in Besao, 355 in Bontoc, 71 in Natonin, 424 in Paracelis, 405 in Sabangan, 229 in Sadanga, 305 in Sagada, 275 in Tadi­an 1, and 264 in Tadian 2.

With this minimal number of registered scouts, Mayaen encouraged the members of the council to continue the job they started and give more effort to involve more in scouting.
